The Cascade

Someone calculated how many floors the hillside could hold and built one more. Terrace upon terrace, white upon white, each level a copy of the one below with minor variations — a striped awning here, a red one there — small declarations of difference within a structure designed to eliminate it. The mountain became a building. The building became the mountain.
